Planning to replace the entire heating, cooling and duct system

The furnace and air conditioner in my house were already installed when we purchased the property.

  • The equipment was not new at the time and had not been properly taken care of.

While both the heating and cooling systems continue to operate, my husband and I are not happy with them. There are problems with excess humidity in the summer, overly dry air in the winter and contaminants spewing from the vents. Because the ductwork was not designed to maximize airflow, it hinders system efficiency. Our energy bills are super high and yet the house never feels comfortable. Certain rooms are always overheated while others are chilly. My husband and I are planning a huge renovation project to bring the electrical wiring up to code, replace the water and drain pipes and add insulation. We are preparing to tear down walls and ceilings and put up brand new drywall throughout the home. It is the perfect opportunity to remove the problematic ductwork, heating unit and cooling unit. Although the installation of a whole new duct system, furnace and air conditioner is a major expense, we believe the results will prove worthwhile. We can take advantage of a high-efficiency system that significantly trims our annual energy expenses. The severe weather in our area necessitates heating and cooling just about year round. Lowering monthly bills will have a big impact on our budget. Along with Energy Star rated equipment and ductwork that facilitates maximum airflow, we could also implement zone control. Having the ability to tailor thermostat settings room-by-room would help to save money. We’d no longer be forced to maintain ideal comfort in empty rooms. We could also customize the temperature according to room requirement or personal preference.
