Oftentimes, it pays off to be a good human being when you can.
A few weeks ago, for instance, I was wandering around my favorite local department store when I saw a full grown man standing in the juniors section and looking extremely uncomfortable.
I watched him wander around for a while, looking extremely confused in the young women’s section. I had no idea what he was doing walking around there, but it looked like he felt the same. Eventually, I started to feel quite bad for the man, because the look on his face was utterly downtrodden. I walked over to see if he needed help with something in this ladies department. Surprisingly, he turned around and was immediately grateful for my inquiry. He shared that he was trying to find a gift for his girlfriend’s daughter, and he had no idea what teenage girls like. I helped him find a cool gift, and in the meantime he told me a bit about his life. It turns out, he is a central heating and cooling ventilation specialist. He regularly driving around town and services everyone’s failing heating and cooling appliances. He is extremely skilled at indoor air quality control, including dehumidification and air purification systems. I helped him pick out a set of nail polish for his teenage daughter, and as we parted ways he handed me his business card. He said if I ever needed a hand with my air handling equipment, I should immediately give him a call. I walked away from the interaction feeling good about myself and reassured that my indoor air quality would always be top notch.
