My family has a tradition of taking a ski vacation over the Christmas holidays. We rent a cabin right on the slopes, where we can step out the door and get in line for the lifts. We spend anywhere from one to two weeks skiing during the day and playing board games or watching movies in the evening. While we used to stay in different accommodations every year, we’ve found a favorite spot and stuck with it the past four holidays. Our vacation cabin is outfitted with comfortable beds, modern appliances and amazing water pressure in the showers. We have a gorgeous view of the mountains. The best amenity of the cabin is the radiant heated floors. Our first time in the accommodations, we were initially concerned about the lack of any sign of a heating system. We found thermostats in each room but no vents or radiators. The entire system is concealed under the floors, taking up no space and causing no disruption to aesthetics. Plus, the operation is totally silent. The heat spreads evenly across the floor and rises very slowly upward. There are no drafts, cold pockets or stratification. The comfort is especially gentle and cozy. The individual thermostats control temperature in each specific room, allowing for customized settings. Every family member can tailor comfort to their preferences. Getting out of bed in the morning and setting my bare feet on a warm floor feels amazing. Stepping out of the shower onto a warm floor is just lovely. I wish I could have radiant floors installed into my own house.
